Accessibility Policy

We are committed to making our Web site accessible to all users. To make the site more accessible, we include several features designed to improve accessibility for users with disabilities.

We are committed to making its Web site accessible according to the standards set forth by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). To improve the accessibility of our Web site, we test any major redesign with several screen readers and other Web tools. The results of these reviews are incorporated into the Web site.

We welcome comments on how to improve the site's accessibility for users with disabilities. If you use assistive technology and the format of any material on our Web site interferes with your ability to access the information, please contact us so that we may ensure you can access the materials and information you need. To enable us to respond in a manner most helpful to you, please indicate the nature of your accessibility request, the preferred format in which to receive the material, the Web address of the requested material and your contact information.

Additional information about accessibility programs in Texas is available from the Governor's Committee on People with Disabilities.

Cookies

The TxDMV site may use cookies to provide interactive pages, such as web-based forms and surveys. TxDMV does not use cookies for other purposes. These cookies are not required for site functionality. Additionally, third-party widgets such as Google Analytics or YouTube may install cookies depending on their configuration. You are not required to accept any cookies to use this site.

Google Analytics

We use the “Google Analytics” tool to collect information about use of the TxDMV site. Google Analytics collects information such as how often users visit this site, what pages they visit when they do so, and what other sites they used prior to coming to this site. We use the information we get from Google Analytics in the aggregate and only to improve this site. Google Analytics collects only the IP address assigned to you on the date you visit this site, rather than your name or other identifying information. We do not combine the information collected through the use of Google Analytics with personally identifiable information. Although Google Analytics plants a permanent cookie on your web browser to identify you as a unique user the next time you visit this site, the cookie cannot be used by anyone but Google. Google’s ability to use and share information collected by Google Analytics about your visits to this site is restricted by the Google Analytics Terms of Use (as amended for government websites) and the Google Privacy Policy. You can prevent Google Analytics from recognizing you on return visits to this site by disabling cookies on your browser.

Release of Information

All information collected or maintained by TxDMV is subject to the provisions of the Texas Public Information Act (Chapter 552, Texas Government Code). The identity of most members of the public who communicate with state agencies through the Internet is confidential under Texas law. Exceptions to confidentiality may be reviewed at Texas Government code, Section 552.137.

TxDMV complies with the State Web Site Link and Privacy Policy. TxDMV encourages organizations that link to this web site to comply with the provisions of the State Web Site Link and Privacy Policy, especially regarding protection of the privacy rights of individuals, and to make reasonable efforts to provide accessible sites.

Browser Support & Web Development Policies

TxDMV is committed to making our website easily accessible and consistent across supported browsers and platforms. Because it is not always possible or practical for us to fully test and validate our website using every available operating system and browser combination, we have implemented these policies to ensure support for the majority of our users.

Supported Browsers

To maximize our ability to successfully support our constituents' needs, and to enable our engineering teams to make use of new capabilities available in modern, up-to-date browsers, we made the decision to support only modern browsers, which also provide improved security and performance.

TxDMV also uses statistical data from web visitors and registered users to identify the browsers used by our target audience. We regularly review this data to determine which browsers to support. Our current policy covers over 95% of our users.

We support the latest version of Google Chrome (which automatically updates whenever it detects that a new version of the browser is available). We support the current and previous major releases of Firefox, Edge, and Safari (on macOS & iOS) on a rolling basis.

Internet Explorer (IE) is an outdated browser that does not fully support the latest web standards and has a number of security concerns. Microsoft replaced IE11 - the last version released - with Edge as the default browser in 2015. While most of our websites will function correctly with IE11, we recommend using a modern browser (see list of supported browsers above) to ensure a secure and fully functional experience.
