Over 90% of auto thefts reported in Travis County occurred within the City of Austin. The Austin Police Department Auto Theft Interdiction Project has been successful in implementing a variety of strategies to reduce auto theft and burglary of vehicles, recover stolen vehicles, and prosecute offenders. The mission of the Austin Police Department Auto Theft Interdiction Project is to reduce the rate of auto theft and burglary of vehicles in the City of Austin. To achieve this goal, the unit employs several initiatives involving investigation, enforcement techniques, analysis, prevention and educational strategies.
