These documents contain text of correspondence sent by TxDMV to the county tax assessor-collectors, statutory agents who provide vehicle registration and titling services for citizens in Texas. This information is provided to apprise the general public of issues affecting the state's vehicle titling and registration process.

To inform you of a newly added Registration Class for processing trailers to be registered as Token Trailer Fleet.

In December 2010, with RTS Release 6.6.0, we introduced changes to Token Trailer registration that prevented the printing of a sticker at time of renewal. We have now implemented changes to the Token Trailer Application within the TxIRP System. Previously, registrants had the option of registering Token Trailers through the TxIRP System for five consecutive years and receiving a license plate with the month and year of expiration printed on it.

With the recent changes, registrants now have the option of registering a Token Trailer as part of a fleet and selecting a registration period of one to five years. License plates issued through the TxIRP System will utilize a seven (7) character pattern and no longer display the pre-printed month and year of expiration on the license plate. The TxIRP receipt will be proof of valid registration and must be carried in the pulling unit or in the trailer, if applicable.

Additionally, to accommodate the implementation of Token Trailer registration in the TxIRP System, the plate age of all Token Trailer license plates in the motor vehicle database has been changed to zero. There may be a chance that you get a registration renewal notice for April or May, which was printed prior to the plate age being changed, that indicates that a new plate is required. If you receive one of these renewal notices, process as normal and issue a new Token Trailer license plate.

When processing a title transaction for a new or used trailer to be registered as a Token Trailer Fleet through the TxIRP System, it will be very important to select TOKEN TRAILER FLT as the Registration Class.

Attached is a mini-version of RTS Release Notes, which will provide you with step by step processing for title transactions and exchanges. If you have any questions, please contact your local VTR Regional Office.
